The Lakes development started in the 1980s. This master-planned community is constructed around a large man-made lake which offers a tropical setting. Looking at the landscaping, vegetations and the lake, it is hard to believe that you are in the middle of the desert. The community features lake-front properties, custom homes, tract homes, town homes and condo's. The lake-front residents sail around in electric power boats and sail boats in the main community lake, accessible exclusively to residents and their guests.

Although mostly completed, some of the lots are still under construction. It is one of the most beautiful sections of Las Vegas with water views, jogging trails and plenty of lush, green landscapes. It is located in the west part of the town, near Summerlin. In the past couple of decades the area has transformed. It started as being on the outskirts of Las Vegas to being right in the middle of the valley on the west side. The transformation has brought high-end dining, golf, and shopping to the area.

The center piece of the Lakes development is the 'Estates at the Lakes' gated community with waterfront custom luxury homes. The homes range from approximately 3,500 to 11,500 sq. ft., with the lots ranging from approximately 8,500 sq. ft. to an acre. Another major portion of the complex is called 'Beach View Estates', also a gated community of single story and two story custom homes. In addition to single family homes there are several condominium associations such as 'Symphony Condos', 'Vista Del Lago', 'Whispering Lakes' and 'Regency at the Lakes'.
