Summerlin occupies 22,500 acres along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley. It sits in the shadow of the Spring Mountain Range and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Summerlin is well known for its natural surroundings as well as for the beauty of its streets, parks and neighborhoods
As of May 2006, Summerlin has a population of 92,650. The developer of this master plan community, Howard Hughes Corporation, has built the project around the concept of distinct villages which are grouped around a Town Center.
Each village has its own design
characteristics and differs from other villages in size, housing type,
density, price and amenities. The master plan has a wide variety of
home styles and sizes, priced from the mid $100,000's to over several
millions. Here is where you will find entry level homes, luxury single
family homes, or elegant town homes and condominiums in addition to
several guard-gated, golf course neighborhoods with custom homes.
More
than 30 percent of Summerlin has been designated as community space
including parks, trails, recreational facilities, golf courses, the
trail system, landscaped areas and natural preserved areas. There are
so many recreational opportunities in Summerlin, the biggest challenge
involves deciding what to do first. An abundance of parks, trails and
golf courses come together with exceptional schools, cultural
facilities, shopping centers, business parks and medical facilities
along with over 150 model homes built by 15 home builders to create a
self contained community unlike any other in Southern Nevada.
On the west side of the Summerlin community is the magnificent Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Over 1.2 million visitors annually come to see this amazing landscape.
With eight private schools and nine public schools Summerlin offers its residents more educational choices than any other community in Las Vegas. The Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center, home of the Nevada Ballet Theater, serve as the cultural cornerstone of this master planned community.
There are three master associations in the Summerlin community; north, south and west. Each of the master associations function as individual nonprofit corporations with their own Board of Directors. The Summerlin Council has been formed as the recreational arm of the master associations. It owns, operates and maintains the regional amenities.
