|
There is another side to this southwestern metropolitan area that is home to 1.7 million people - a place with schools, parks, grocery stores, and quiet neighborhoods populated by people from every part of the world. The city of Las Vegas has mystic qualities. It is the home to dazzling lights and glittering resorts where more than 35 million pleasure-seeking tourists wager millions of dollars every year.
Mormon settlers from Salt Lake City traveled to Las Vegas to protect the Los Angeles-Salt Lake City mail route. In 1855 they began building a 150-square-foot fort of sun-dried bricks known as adobe. The work on the first railroad grade into Las Vegas began in the summer of 1904. The tent town called Las Vegas sprouted saloons, stores and boarding houses. The Plaza Hotel, located at Main and Fremont street in Downtown Las Vegas, today stands on the site of the original Union Pacific Railroad depot.
The railroad is the factor that led to the founding of Las Vegas on May 15, 1905. Twelve hundred lots were auctioned off in a single day in an area which today is casino-lined Glitter Gulch. Nevada was the first state to legalize casino-style gambling, and the last to outlaw gaming in the first decade of the 20th Century. Legalized gambling returned to Nevada during the Great Depression, the same year construction started on the Hoover Dam Project.
There was a small building boom in the late 1940's including construction of several hotel-casinos on a two-lane highway leading into Las Vegas from Los Angeles. That two way road evolved into today's Las Vegas Strip.
The most famous of the early resorts, the Flamingo hotel and casino, was built by mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel. It opened around New Year's Eve 1946.
Entertainment, shopping and restaurants have transformed Las Vegas to the number one gaming getaway in the world. It is no wonder that the recent U.S. census shows Nevada growing at a faster rate than any other state in the Union.

1 comment » 3704 Bronco Billy Ct.-FULLY APPROVED SHORT SALE!THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S APPROVED! No need to wait months to get bank approval of this one, we can get you in for the Holidays. This home in the Northwest area of the Las Vegas Valley, is just under 1700 square feet and it's approved at $112,000 with 1% back to the buyer. That works out to just over $65.00 per square foot. It has 4 bedrooms (all upstairs), 2 1/2 baths and a 2 car garage. All appliances are included. To top it off it's in a great cul-de-sac. There is a Home Owners Association (HOA) managed by Desert HOA Management Inc. The Cimarron Gowan Community Association has quarterly fees of only $37.50. You can't beat that! It does need some minor TLC, like most short sales, but it is a great value for the condition. I don't think you will need to change the carpet as it is fairly new. Take a look at the video below and you'll see all of the details. Who do you know that would like to get into a new house in the next month? Act fast as I know this will not last long at the current price.
Here is a map to help you with understanding the location. Check it out, it's close to lots of terrific Las Vegas amenities. http://www.timmerrell.com/00A094 Posted on November 10, 2009 09:10:08 by Tim Merrell

Leave a comment » Vdara Site TourHere is another video shot on the CityCenter site tour. This is from the entrance of the Vdara Condo Hotel. This will open the first part of December, it's hard to get the scale of this in the video! It's going to be HUGE! The units that have been purchased will start to close in March. With the price reductions and the views I'm sure the values will be there for the appraisals. There are great incentives to go into contract right now! Contact us to find out more details!

Leave a comment » First Tour of CityCenterI was lucky enough to be invited to the first REALTOR tour of Project CityCenter. All I can say is the world is going to be blown away! It's hard to believe that the first part of the project is going to open on December 1st, just over three weeks away. The other hotels and retail will open mid December and the residential closings will start to happen after the first of the year. With the recent reductions in the sales prices the average price is now around $700,000 with the entry price of $350,000. I also learned that in the coming weeks there will be some announcements about potential financing that has been arranged for buyers. Stay tuned for many more updates in the coming weeks.

Leave a comment » Uncle Kracker at The Bite of Las VegasThe 13th Annual "Bite of Las Vegas" hosted by Mix 94.1 at Desert Breeze Park turned out to be a great day! Even with the headliner "Train" canceling at the last minute it was still a perfect day for food, drink and music. The weather could not have been better; hot enough to drink lots of beer, and cool enough to spend the day in the park. We got a chance to catch up with our friends at Hash House a Go Go and found out that they will be opening their second location here in Vegas in December and it will be on the Strip! They sold out of the Kiwi Watermelon Lemonade, the line was HUGE! If you don't know about "Twisted Farm Food" you've got to check them out! Uncle Kracker performed in the afternoon to a crowd of thousands. We also learned that he was a co-writer on Kid Rock's song "All Summer Long," here is a short video.....
If you missed it, put it on your calendar for next year! It's a great way to spend the day in Vegas! http://www.timmerrell.com/009E90 Posted on October 18, 2009 06:12:38 by Tim Merrell
