"A Place to Call Home"

In 1944 when the Basic Post
Office was completed and dedicated, the town was named Henderson after
the late Senator Charles B. Henderson. At an average elevation of 1,940
feet, Henderson is ideally located in the southern rim of the Las Vegas Valley, just 7 miles southeast of the famous Las Vegas
Strip and minutes away from McCarran International Airport. The City of
Henderson is recognized as Nevada's second largest city. Separated by
mountains and desert from Boulder City and the Lake Mead National
Recreation Area, it forms the southern edge for one of the fastest
growing metropolitan areas in the United States. Henderson occupies the southern rim of the Las Vegas Valley stretching from Interstate 15 east to Lake Las Vegas.
Features include level desert, access to the Colorado River, Lake
Mead, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, Black Mountain and
McCullough Mountains. Henderson is central to three of the greatest man-made attractions in the world: the neon of the famous Las Vegas
Strip, the splendor of Hoover Dam, and the tranquility of Lake Mead.
Henderson is still a place where you can experience the hospitality of
a small town and the excitement of a big city. Henderson, was the
fastest growing city in America from 1990 to 1998. In December of 1999,
Henderson surpassed Reno as Nevada's second largest city and it remains
one of the top five fastest growing cities in the nation (2000 U.S.
Census). Henderson was also rated among the top 50 "Kid Friendly"
cities in the United States in 1997 by Zero Population Growth, a
Washington-based group.
Nevada's tax
climate is very attractive, as Nevada does not charge corporate,
franchise or personal income tax. Nevada is often considered to have
one of the least burdensome tax structures in the country. Henderson
has maintained the same property tax rate for many years and continues
to have one of the lowest rates in the Las Vegas
metropolitan area, as well as the State of Nevada. Although Henderson
has a diverse community, the city has the highest median household
income in Southern Nevada.

The parks are well maintained and you will always run into your neighbors as they are out walking their dogs or taking the kids for a bike ride. You'll often see the dogs chasing all of the little bunnies that live in the parks. You can even book the picnic and BBQ areas for large family parties. Contact the City of Henderson Parks & Recreation Dept. for details In addition to the daily activities the City also hosts several events in the park, mostly in the summer. The events are usually a concert series or local theatre group doing Shakespeare in the Park. The schedule is always changing and can be found at this link. Below you will see a short video that was taken as we walked through the park, I think it captures the feel for this great space! Make sure to pay attention to the amount of homes that over look the park, this is one of the reason the homes in Seven Hills in Henderson are so desired. The open spaces really provide expansive view corridors from many of the different neighborhoods and allow for lots of family fun.
Here is a map to help you understand the location of Sonata Park, it has a different name (one I've never heard of) on the Google map, so don't be confused. Sonata Park is tucked deep in the community and many people don't even know that it exists.
